4 Core Reasons I Created This Podcast

Why Did I Create the Eco Scale Radio podcast?

A podcast that explores the intersection of entrepreneurs, climate change, and regeneration.

I was motivated to create this podcast based on two quotes that kept reverberating in my mind and 4 core reasons.

For years grim reports have warned us of the impact of a tsunami headed our way. And for years we have waited for governments to do something about it. But virtually nothing has been done.

The grim reports about Climate Change and the lack of action makes me feel helplessness, hopelessness, and powerless.

I was tired of feeling hopeless and powerless.

I was tired of passively sitting on the sidelines waiting for others to do something.

So, I’ve decided to see what I can do.

This episode describes the 4 core reasons I created this podcast.

Why Did I Create the Eco Scale Radio podcast?

A podcast that explores the intersection of entrepreneurs, climate change, and regeneration.

I was motivated to create this podcast based on two quotes that kept reverberating in my mind and 4 core reasons that fill needs I want to help fill.

I was tired of living in a culture full of denial and avoidance.

For me, living in denial and avoidance and going numb inside is no longer an option.

I am tired of passively sitting on the sidelines waiting for others to do something.

So, I’ve decided to see what I can do.

So instead of running away from or hidding from the tsunami headed our way, I decided to pivot into the tsunami headed our way.

And asked, “How can I help?” “What can I proactively do?”

Two Inspiring Quotes

That is when two of my favorite quotes came to mind.

The first quote comes from the author of The Little Prince, Alexander de Sainte-Exupéry. He is attributed to having once said:

“If you want to build a flotilla of ships, you don't sit around talking about carpentry.

No, you need to set people's souls ablaze with visions of exploring distant shores.”

― Alexander de Sainte-Exupéry

That is what I want this podcast to do. To set people’s souls ablaze with visions of climate change solutions, regenerated environments and climate restoration.

I’m not a climate change or regeneration expert.

But I do have a high tolerance for ambiguity. I know to dig for answers to large complex problems. I know how to build networks, interview people who are experts, and work with business owners to help them market and scale their business. That’s how I can set souls ablaze.

The second quote that came to mind is from Buckminster Fuller. It helps me realize the power of innovation and the power of reframing the problem. Here is Bucky’s quote:

You never change things by fighting the existing reality.

To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

― Buckminster Fuller

What if entrepreneurs could do what Buckminster Fuller suggests?

Entrepreneurs by their very nature can take action faster than governments can.

Entrepreneurs by their very nature can innovate and implement faster than governments can.

So, we need to focus on what entrepreneurs can do to innovate, implement, and scale solutions for Climate Change and regeneration.

With that in mind, I decided to pool together my strengths and start this podcast.

A podcast to help gather a tribe of like-minded entrepreneurs to create solutions that make the current systems irrelevant at a scale that makes a difference no matter what governments do or don’t do.

In spite of the impossible challenge we face…

In spite of a news that leaves us feeling a sense of despair…

In spite of an uncertain future…

The question that drives me to create this podcast is:

What can entrepreneurs proactively and

collectively do to restore the climate

regardless of what any government

or large corporation does?

4 Reasons I Created This Podcast

Let’s take it a step further.

There are 4 core reasons I created this podcast:

1 - Restore Hope and Resilience

2 - Create a Tribe

3 - Fill the Gap

4 - Focus on Engaging Stories Behind the Crisis

Here is a detailed description of each of those 4 reasons for creating this podcast.

Reason 1 - Restore Hope and Resilience

The first reason was to restore hope and resilience.

These days everywhere you go you meet people, young and old, who look at the future with despair. They have lost hope for the future because there is a huge Climate Change tsunami headed our way. Their hope has been replaced with fear and dread.

I want this podcast to help keep hope alive even in the face all the challenges in front of us.

In the face of the many reasons to fear for our future, we can still choose hope.

Humans are very resilient that way.

If you are an entrepreneur who is tired of feeling hopeless and powerless when it comes to climate change, this podcast is for you.

Instead of sitting in your living room late at night having a pity party, you can listen to this podcast to get inspired to take the actions necessary to scale your business so you can:

  • provide more value to others.

  • innovate and implement more climate change solutions.

  • play your part to regenerate the environment.

We are the leaders we need to get us through these crazy times. We were born for these times.

We need countless entrepreneurs:

  • To step up as leaders and do the impossible.

  • To see climate change as a challenge and not just a threat.

  • To take action in spite of an uncertain future.

  • To implement solutions for the betterment of the environment and future generations.

Even when there is no guarantee of success.

To do this, we need hope and resilience.

Reason 2 - Create a Tribe

The second reason I created this podcast is to work with a tribe of like-minded entrepreneurs.

A tribe full of leaders who are optimistic, purpose-driven, and motivated to do things that others consider impossible.

Entrepreneurs who approach Climate Change with a Challenge mindset instead of a Threat mindset.

I want to work with a tribe of brave, bold, courageous, solution-oriented, creative-thinking entrepreneurs who are willing to face a long list of very real and impossible challenges in front of us and reply “How can I help?”

When a tribe of like-minded entrepreneurs works together, they can innovate, implement, and scale solutions for Climate Change quicker and more efficiently.

We can create dramatic positive changes when we combine the efforts of countless entrepreneurs.

Every little bit helps. Every act matters. These acts add up.

Dramatic change can happen when we combine all these small positive changes.

Reason 3 - Fill the Gap

The third reason I created this podcast is the fact that there is a Huge Gap between what Governments can do and what individuals can do about Climate Change.

Our response to Climate Change will require countless solutions from all areas of society on a global scale.

These solutions will need to come from government programs, individual efforts, AND entrepreneurs.

The response to the Climate Crisis needs all of us.

Entrepreneurs can and must use their skills, networks, and resources to fill that Gap.

As entrepreneurs, we need to collectively pool our strengths together and take action to create solutions that will reduce the pain and suffering that Climate Change will bring.

“We cannot wait for all the world governments to take action on Climate Change.

We entrepreneurs need to step up and take responsibility.”

This podcast can help entrepreneurs discover how they can fill that Gap.

This podcast explores how entrepreneurs can have a positive impact on Climate Change and regeneration.

In this podcast I interview entrepreneurs who are having a positive impact and experts who can help entrepreneurs scale their business so they can increase their reach. The goal is to find good solutions and help scale them quickly.

The goal is to foster connection with like-minded entrepreneurs and stimulate more Climate Solutions and Climate Action.

Taking the easy and dangerous path of Climate Change denial and avoidance is not an option.

Going numb inside is not an option.

Being brave, stepping into the uncertainty and leading is what we need.

Reason 4 - Focus on Engaging Stories Behind the Crisis

The fourth reason I created this podcast was to focus on the stories behind the crisis not just the science and numbers.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the science and numbers.

Wherever possible in this podcast, we’ll use engaging stories to illustrate important points.

In a world filled with information overload, noise, and hype, stories can cut through the clutter, get the message across, and influence people.

Stories can inspire, teach, clarify, and mobilize.

Stories are contagious – they can spread like wildfire.

At times we’ll use stories, myths, folktales, proverbs, and quotes to help people get into an optimistic, growth mindset.

I can hear what you’re thinking right now. You are thinking, “this is all good and well Jim, but I’m just a single entrepreneur with small business. What impact can I have on climate change?”

I’m glad you asked that question.

The best way to answer that question is to tell you a quick story about starfish.

One day, a man was walking along the beach, enjoying the morning sun and cool breeze from the ocean.

Suddenly, far off in the distance, he saw what looked like someone dancing on the beach.

But as he drew closer, the man noticed that it was a little girl picking up starfish from the shore and tossing them back into the ocean.

As he approached the girl, he paused for a moment, kind of puzzled, then asked, "Young lady - why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?"

And she replied… "Well, the sun is up, and the tide is going out. If I leave these starfish on the beach, the sun will dry them up and they will die."

And the man said “But there are thousands of starfish washed up all along this beach for miles! You can’t possibly make a difference!"

The young girl thought for a moment, then slowly leaned over, and carefully picked up another starfish from the sand.

And with the starfish in hand, she turned to the man and gently said "You may be right, but it’ll make a difference to this one!"

And with that, she threw the starfish as far as she could back into the ocean.

Two lessons we can learn from this story are:

  • "It is so easy to become overwhelmed when you look around and see all that needs to be done in response to climate change. It can make you feel helpless and you may ask yourself "how can we possibly make a difference?". But this story shows that you CAN make a difference...one act, one task, one project, one deal, one starfish at a time!”

  • You do not have to wait until you get permission from someone else to make a difference.

You don’t have to wait for someone else to start doing the right thing.

This one individual girl took bold action and started making a difference by helping beached starfish get back to their homes in the ocean.

One person can make a difference.

As entrepreneurs we don’t need to create one giant world-wide silver bullet solution. We don’t need one solution to fix all the climate problems. We need lots and lots of buckshot.

And every solution does not have to be global in scope.

As Jack Kornfield has said, you just need to “Tend to the part of the garden that you can touch.”

We can create dramatic positive changes when we combine the efforts of countless entrepreneurs who are “tending to the part of the garden they can touch.”

Every little bit helps. Every act matters. These acts add up.

Dramatic change can happen when we combine all these small positive changes.

We just need to step up, use the skills and resources we have, and start throwing the starfish in front of us back into the ocean.

As Clarissa Pinkola Estes has said, “We are the leaders we have been waiting for. We have been raised since childhood for these times.”

Conclusion

We have a chance to do something that’s insanely impossible.

We have a chance to have a huge impact on the quality of life for generations to come.

We have a chance to do whatever we can to innovate and implement solutions large and small that will slow down and reverse Climate Change and regenerate the environment.

We must do what we can to avoid rising sea levels, biodiversity collapse, and climate breakdown.

It won’t be easy.

The challenge is enormous.

We will need to overcome incredible odds.

Victory is uncertain.

But this work must be done.

For the sake of future generations and for the health of this planet.

This podcast is focused on climate restoration. We interview fascinating people and explore the Intersection of:

  • Entrepreneurs

  • Climate Change

  • Regeneration

In this podcast, we focus on how entrepreneurs can innovate, implement, and scale solutions to get us out of this Climate Change mess.

We are the leaders we need to get us through these crazy times. We were born for these times.

We need countless entrepreneurs to step up as leaders and do the impossible.

To see Climate Change as a Challenge and not just a Threat.

To take action. To grow their business in spite of an uncertain future.

To implement solutions for the betterment of the environment and future generations.

The interesting and inspiring people we interview on this podcast come from a variety of industries related to Climate Change, Regeneration, and Business Growth.

This podcast is a deep dive into the many ways business owners can innovate, implement, and scale solutions we can use to get our way out of this climate change mess and help regenerate the environment.

So bottom line, this podcast explores new ways entrepreneurs can use their superpowers to make a living and make a difference in the Climate Change Era.

Entrepreneurs who listen to this podcast can discover new possibilities, foster new partnerships, and create new synergies that will positively impact the climate, the ecosystem, and future generations.

Let’s do the impossible, together!
